Meet Cole Talbot, MA, LPC, therapist at Mountain Path Counseling. A graduate of Naropa University, Cole earned his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Contemplative Psychotherapy in 2021. He is a Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist and a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, with ongoing training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. With diverse experience in community mental health, he has worked in adolescent residential treatment, child and family outpatient services, and wilderness therapy programs. Born and raised in Alaska, Cole has a deep passion for serving young Alaskans, honoring the unique connection they have to their land and community.
Cole’s approach to counseling is rooted in a love for nature, adventure, and mindfulness. When he’s not working with clients, you can find him exploring Alaska’s mountains, rivers, and oceans with his wife and their dog, Cedar. His background as a naturalist, outdoor educator, cross-country ski coach, and school counselor enriches his holistic and experiential approach to healing. Cole integrates meditation and mindfulness practices into his work, helping clients cultivate inner resilience and self-awareness. At Mountain Path Counseling, Cole is dedicated to guiding individuals on their unique journey toward healing, growth, and a deeper connection to themselves and the natural world.

Adventure therapy uses structured outdoor experiences to help clients step outside of familiar patterns and try new ways of responding to challenges. These experiences create opportunities for growth, confidence, and real-world skill building.

Mindfulness is woven into our work to help clients slow down, stay present, and connect more deeply with themselves and their surroundings. These practices support emotional balance, resilience, and a greater sense of awareness both in and out of session.

We incorporate Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body-based approach that helps you reconnect with your internal experience and process stress and trauma at the nervous system level. By slowing down and tuning into physical sensations, clients build regulation, resilience, and a deeper sense of stability.

Nature-based therapy brings the work outside, where the environment naturally supports reflection, perspective, and new ways of engaging with challenges. Being in a different setting often allows things to shift more easily than in a traditional office.

Contemplative psychotherapy is rooted in wisdom traditions and holds that each person possesses an innate capacity for awareness, clarity, and healing. When life experiences and patterns create disconnection, this work supports a return to that deeper sense of knowing through presence, reflection, and compassionate attention.
The initial adventure therapy intake is $275 and typically lasts 60–90 minutes. This session includes a comprehensive assessment of your goals, emotional and physical needs, and comfort level with outdoor activities.
We will explore your (or your child’s) background, current concerns, and previous experiences to develop a personalized treatment plan that thoughtfully integrates outdoor experiences with therapeutic goals.

What is adventure therapy?
Adventure therapy integrates outdoor experiences with counseling to support growth and change. Sessions may include walking, nature-based activities, and experiential exercises that build self-awareness, resilience, and emotional regulation. We also offer virtual therapy through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform for clients who prefer or need an online option.
Who is this for?
We work with teens and young adults ages 16-25 who are navigating stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, or feeling stuck—especially those who want something different than traditional office-based therapy.
Do I need outdoor experience?
No prior experience or athletic ability is needed. Sessions are designed to be approachable and tailored to your comfort level.
What if I’m not comfortable being outdoors?
Because sessions take place outside, it’s important that you feel open to being in outdoor environments. If that doesn’t feel like a fit, virtual sessions are available using a secure telehealth platform.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield. For all other insurance plans, we operate as a private pay practice and can provide superbills for possible reimbursement.
How do I get started?
We offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone or through our secure telehealth platform to talk through your goals and see if this approach is a good fit.
